Naperville North arrived in Evanston with focus and purpose. From the opening kickoff until the horn sounded to end the contest with the Huskies in front 2-0, they demonstrated their desire to play as a team.
The Huskies' midfielders showed tremendous strength as Evanston defenders pressured them. Moving from sideline to sideline, Isa Polavieja (10), Kelly Wilson (12) and Kennedy Bertsch (19) made outlet passes look easy for Huskie defenders. And once the ball was at their feet, Claire DeCook (22) made run after run to create passing options or open space for her teammates. DeCook's name didn't end up on the score sheet, but her work wore out several Wildkit defenders.
The Huskies' first goal came off a corner kick. Emily Buescher (21) got open on a couple of corners, and on the second one, she showed her athleticism with a mid-air-right-footed one touch that was unstoppable.
Sophomore Lily Radek (10) added a second goal to the Huskies lead with a strong run into the area and a perfectly placed shot that rolled past Evanston's keeper.
Throughout the second half, both teams continued to battle, but neither scored.
The Huskies' 2-0 win means they will play Lake Forest on Monday, 4/14.
