Hot Competition on a Cool Night

The rain finally stayed away, and five sizable teams joined host Plainfield North for the first outdoor track meet of the year.

The hottest competition of the meet was between the four relay teams of Plainfield North and Andrew High School.

In the first race, the Tigers' Jeremy Dy, Armaan Rehmani, Dylan Gramley, and Nik Clark took the 4 x 100m in a time of 42.59 edging out the Thunderbolts by 0.05.

Joining Maranowski on the winning 4 x 800m crew were Andrew's Tyler Gibbons, Reese DeVriendt, and Ryne Sternberg, posting a time of 8:59.56.

Andrew's team of Brendan Kelly, Jack Maas, Corey Alexander, and Jaden Michel won a tight race in the 4 x 200m with a time of 1:31.95.

Plainfield North's Armaan Rehmani, Matthew Jimenez, Aaron Dinh, Nick Simpsonwould would later win the 4 x 400m in a time of 3:34.06 well ahead of the Thunderbolts and the rest of the field.


In the shot put, Yorkville's Kyle Clabough put up the winning throw with a toss of 59' 3". Winning by a wide margin, Clabough has his sights set on a trip to the IHSA State Finals.

Clabough's closest competition came from Andrew's Jonathan Young.

In the 800 m run, Plainfield North's Cooper Shelton pulled away for the victory.

Metea Valley's Jalen Johnson showed his strength in the 300m hurdles by winning in a time of 39.05, more than 3 seconds ahead of Plainfield North's Demir Asharu.

Coaches and competitors were happy to be outside, and now they look forward to some warmer temps and the work necessary to qualify for the state finals.
